The decline in long-term interest rates also provided support as the market reached record highs and closed. In terms of sectors, automobiles and auto parts saw an increase, while materials declined.
Aircraft manufacturer Boeing (BA) is considering selling its subsidiary Jeppesen's Navigation division for approximately $6 billion in order to reduce its debt burden, leading to an increase. Online travel company Expedia (EXPE) exceeded expected adjusted earnings per share in the third quarter financial results, resulting in an increase. Cloud-based restaurant software company Toast (TOST) raised its full-year performance outlook in the quarterly earnings report, leading to an increase. Electric car manufacturer Tesla (TSLA) continued to see buying interest as the company is expected to benefit from President Trump's supported victory received by CEO Elon Musk.
Salad restaurant chain Sweetgreen (SG) experienced a decline as losses expanded more than expected in the third quarter financial results. Pinterest (PINS), the operator of a digital image search and collection website, warned of a decline in year-end sales and decreased. Capri Holdings (CPRI), the operator of fashion brands like Michael Kors, experienced a decline in its stock price as weak demand from countries like China led to lower-than-expected adjusted earnings per share in the quarterly financial results.
The VIX index, which indicates investors' fear sentiment, fell to 14.66.
