Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), the top gainer on Thursday, today gave up 98 sen to close at RM26.50, ending the day as the second-ranking decliner on the list, after 158,500 shares had changed hands.
Meanwhile, foodstuff supplier Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd shed RM1.04 to settle at RM28.66 on a turnover of 230,500 shares, as beer supplier Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd shed 16 sen to close at RM19.52.
Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd and Pentamaster Corporation Bhd both decreased by 30 sen to close at RM18.34 and RM3.70, respectively.
Given the negative market sentiment, the top gainer, Hong Leong Industries Bhd, advanced just 18 sen to settle at RM13.50 on a moderate turnover of 41,400 shares.
Yoong Onn Corporation Bhd added 17 sen to settle at RM1.98 while Batu Kawan Bhd climbed 14 sen to close at RM1.98.
Notably, Dialog Group Bhd's shares were actively traded, recording a volume of nearly 10.5 million (10,467,800) shares, and rose 12 sen to close at RM2.03.
Petronas Gas Bhd increased by 12 sen to end the day at RM17.62.
On the broader market, decliners outnumbered gainers by 653 to 338, while 490 counters were unchanged, 925 untraded and 17 suspended.
Daily exchange-wide turnover dropped to 2.69 billion shares valued at RM1.86 billion from 3.77 billion shares valued at RM3.41 billion recorded the previous day.
