TaskUs, Inc. (NASDAQ:TASK) Looks Just Right With A 30% Price Jump

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 8 18:12

TaskUs, Inc. (NASDAQ:TASK) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 30% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Taking a wider view, although not as strong as the last month, the full year gain of 21% is also fairly reasonable.

Following the firm bounce in price, given around half the companies in the United States have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") below 18x, you may consider TaskUs as a stock to potentially avoid with its 27.4x P/E ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

Recent times have been advantageous for TaskUs as its earnings have been rising faster than most other companies. The P/E is probably high because investors think this strong earnings performance will continue. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Is There Enough Growth For TaskUs?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/E as high as TaskUs' is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the market.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew earnings per share by an impressive 34% last year. Although, its longer-term performance hasn't been as strong with three-year EPS growth being relatively non-existent overall. Therefore, it's fair to say that earnings growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 20% each year as estimated by the eight analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 10% each year growth forecast for the broader market.

In light of this, it's understandable that TaskUs' P/E sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

The Key Takeaway

The large bounce in TaskUs' shares has lifted the company's P/E to a fairly high level. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-earnings ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

As we suspected, our examination of TaskUs' analyst forecasts revealed that its superior earnings outlook is contributing to its high P/E. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/E as they are quite confident future earnings aren't under threat. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
