Ranpak Holdings Sees Insider Stock Selling

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 8 02:02

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Ranpak Holdings Corp.'s (NYSE:PACK ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Ranpak Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Non-Employee Director, Michael Jones, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$100k worth of shares at a price of US$6.41 each. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$6.76, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 7.3% of Michael Jones's holding. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Michael Jones.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$60k for 19.50k shares. But insiders sold 15.63k shares worth US$100k. Does Ranpak Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Ranpak Holdings insiders own 8.2% of the company, worth about US$43m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
