Japanese stocks of American Depositary Receipt (ADR) such as Japan Post <6178>, Daikin Industries <6367>, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group <8306>, HOYA <7741>, Terumo <4543>, Disco <6146>, Mitsui Sumitomo Financial Group <8316>, etc., rose compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (converted at 1 dollar to 154.54 yen), with a general preference for buying. Chicago Nikkei 225 futures settlement price closed at 40,035 yen, up 335 yen from Osaka daytime comparison.
The U.S. stock market saw a significant advance. The Dow Jones rose by $1508.05 to $43,729.93, while the Nasdaq ended trading at 18,983.46, up 544.29 points. It was bought due to the fading uncertainty post-presidential election, resulting in a significant rise after opening. Expectations for the business policies of the second Trump administration, such as deregulation leading to increased corporate earnings, accelerated buying, leading to a steady uptrend throughout the day. With optimistic views on the economy and expectations for additional rate cuts at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the Federal Reserve, the market expanded its gains towards the end, setting new record highs before closing.
In the New York foreign exchange market on the 6th, the dollar-yen rose from 153.97 yen to 154.70 yen, closing at 154.59 yen. Following Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, the view that his policies will lead to upward pressure on inflation has further accelerated dollar buying amid rising long-term interest rates. Subsequently, interest rates and the dollar struggled to rise as a result of a successful 30-year bond auction. In addition, with rising stocks leading to a preference for risk and selling of the yen, the euro-dollar fell to 1.0683 dollars, rose to 1.0761 dollars, and closed at 1.0731 dollars. Concerns about the tariff measures by the second Trump administration restraining European economic growth accelerated euro selling.
NY crude oil futures for December showed weakness (NYMEX crude oil December contract closing price: 71.69, down 0.30).
