Missouri voters narrowly approved Amendment 2, legalizing sports gambling in the state.
According to reports from Tencent Finance APP, based on predictions, Missouri voters narrowly approved Amendment 2, legalizing sports gambling in the state. This amendment authorizes the Missouri Gaming Commission to regulate sports gambling, issue licenses to several types of operators including existing Missouri casinos, draftkings (DKNG.US), Flutter Entertainment (FLUT.US), and online platforms, as well as professional sports teams. As of the time of publication, DraftKings stock price rose 4.55% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, while Flutter Entertainment's stock price increased by 2.96%.
The amendment also includes financial terms such as setting a $0.5 million licensing application fee with a requirement for renewal every five years, and imposing a 10% gambling tax on adjusted total gambling revenue.
Out of 3572 precincts, 3570 precincts have reported the total votes, with 50.2% of voters supporting the amendment.
Missouri is one of only 12 states in the USA where sports gambling is illegal. Neighboring states like Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois have increased state tax revenues by approving sports gambling. Leading companies in the US market share, DraftKings and Flutter Entertainment, are eyeing the potential in the 18th largest state in the USA, contributing funds to a $43 million campaign supporting the amendment. The amendment also authorizes additional sports gambling licenses to professional sports teams, with teams in Kansas City and St. Louis openly supporting this measure.
