Train services between Tanah Merah and Tampines stations will be suspended.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT have scheduled a track connection project for the East-West Line (EWL) to the East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) from 7 to 10 December.
During this period, train services between Tanah Merah and Tampines stations will be suspended.
The four-day closure will allow for the removal of 80 metres of existing tracks, sleepers, and the third rail along the EWL viaduct, and the installation of new turnout tracks connecting to the ECID. Following the track installation, the third rail and power cables will be reinstalled, and signalling, power, and communication systems will undergo testing.
LTA has completed preparatory works including viaduct construction to minimise closure time.
In place of train services, shuttle buses will operate between Tampines, Simei, and Tanah Merah stations at three-to-five-minute intervals. These buses will have fares equivalent to train fares, with additional bus services available for commuters connecting to the Downtown Line and EWL.
The closure will impact adjacent EWL segments, including Tampines to Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah to Changi Airport stations. LTA advises planning journeys in advance, as increased congestion is expected at MRT stations and bus stops.
