Exterior of this developed product
Hamamatsu Photonics has established a unique technology that dramatically increases the manufacturing accuracy of semiconductor laser (LD) modules that it has cultivated so far, and has succeeded in developing an excitation (*1) LD module with 23 kW/cm2, which is approximately 4 times brighter than our conventional products, and is the world's highest brightness for laser nuclear fusion.
By using this developed product as a light source to excite the laser medium (*2) of laser devices for laser fusion, it is expected that a 1 kilojoule (kJ) class laser, which is an important milestone in the practical application of laser fusion, will be realized, and it is expected that laser fusion research being promoted around the world will accelerate. Furthermore, by applying the LD module manufacturing technology established in this development, development of a smaller excitation LD module with the same light output as before can also be expected.
The results of this research are from the “IEEE PHOTONICS CONFERENCE” special symposium “A Technology Roadmap for High Power Diode Laser Pumps for Large Laser Facilities: From Secondary Source” to be held in Rome, Italy for 5 days from 11/10 (Sun) to 14 (Thu) It will be announced at “Generation to Fusion”.
*1 Excitation: A state of high energy in which atoms and molecules absorb light.
*2 Laser medium: A substance that stores energy from the outside and gives energy to lasers passing through it.
