Recently, Disney is forming a new team to coordinate the company's use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and mixed reality, and explore the application of these technologies in the film, television, and theme park departments.

It is said that the newly established Technology Support Office (Office of Technology Enablement) will be led by Disney's Chief Technology Officer Jamie Voris. Voris previously developed Disney applications for Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality device. The CTO position previously held by Voris will be succeeded by Eddie Drake.

"The speed and scope of development of artificial intelligence and XR (Extended Reality) are profound and will continue to impact consumer experiences, creative efforts, and our business in the coming years—this means, Disney needs to explore this exciting opportunity and address potential risks." Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman wrote in the email announcing this news, "The formation of this group highlights our commitment to achieving this goal."

Bergman pointed out that the department will focus on rapidly advancing technology fields such as artificial intelligence and mixed reality, blending the physical and digital worlds together, ensuring that various projects under the company meet its broader strategic goals.

Voris will report to Bergman. An insider revealed that the newly established Technology Support Office will have a core leadership team, with the expected number of employees increasing to around 100.

Disney has been quietly researching cutting-edge technology.

In fact, Disney has always been at the forefront of using emerging technologies.

Previously, various departments of Disney had been exploring the application of augmented reality, integrating digital elements into the real world. Now, this new team will also research how artificial intelligence technology can be applied in Disney's overall entertainment business.

According to multiple sources, with Meta and Snap launching a new generation of lightweight glasses as a fashionable alternative to bulky VR goggles for consumers, Disney has quietly been assembling a team internally focused on how to best utilize this technology to bring new experiences to the company's theme parks and consumers' homes.

According to market research firm IDC, as of this year, global technology companies have sold approximately 1.7 million AR/VR headsets. Meta remains the clear market leader with 60.5% market share.
