As of 7:59 pm Eastern Time on November 3, more than 75 million eligible voters in the usa have already cast their votes early.
Currently, the voting rate of Democratic Party voters has reached 41%, slightly leading the Republican Party's 39%.
As of November 3 local time in the usa, over 75 million people have voted early, with nine states reporting that over 50% of eligible voters have already voted.
Michael McDonald, a political science professor at the University of Florida, stated that based on early voting predictions, the overall voter turnout for this year's election may fall between approximately 60% in 2016 and 67% in 2020. Although the voter turnout is lower than the historic high of 2020, it is still expected to reach historically high levels.
Based on the total number of votes in the 2020 election, currently early voters account for about one-third of all voters, making it highly likely that the election results can be tallied within one to two days after the official vote on November 5.
This year's early voting situation is quite intense, as Republicans who have traditionally preferred to vote on election day have evidently changed their minds this year. The number of early voters has significantly increased, closely matching the voting rate of Democratic registered voters.
As of last Saturday, among the 0.57 million Republicans who voted early in Pennsylvania, over 40% voted on Election Day in 2020, indicating a significant shift in Republican voting behavior.
Democrats still hold an advantage.
The latest data shows that among early voters nationwide, 41% are Democrats, 39% are Republicans, and 20% are independent voters and others.
From available early voting data in various states, Democratic registered voters lead in 18 states, while Republican voters lead in 22 states.
In Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, independent voters and others are currently leading in votes; Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia have not conducted early voting or do not register party information, making comparison impossible.
For voters in the seven battleground states, this year's election is particularly nerve-wracking and exhausting. Gunner Robblee, a 22-year-old hairstylist from Nevada, said waiting in line fills him with anticipation, and with nearly every step, he breaks a sweat.
Despite this, there have been some hiccups in election work across the usa. In a crucial county in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, thousands of mail-in ballots were not delivered to voters, while another county in the state reported mistakenly rejecting voters' ballots before the voting deadline.
Another battleground state, Georgia, also claims to have found traces of Russian interference in the election. Colorado goes one step further and states that parts of its election machines' passwords have been leaked.
However, according to election officials across the usa, these issues were quickly identified and resolved, demonstrating the comprehensiveness of the election work in the usa, which will not have a significant impact on the election results.
