According to the report from CCTime Finance APP, the Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong announced today that starting from November 4, 2024, the new annual interest rate on tax reserve certificates will change from the current 0.8000% to 0.7167%, meaning that based on the new rate, interest of 0.0597 yuan can be earned per 100 yuan each month. The interest on tax reserve certificates is calculated on a simple interest basis. Interest is calculated monthly from the date of purchase to the date of using the certificate to pay taxes; interest can also be earned proportionally for periods less than a month. Interest can only be calculated when tax reserve certificates are used to pay taxes. If the principal value of the tax reserve certificates is returned to the holder, no interest will be paid. The interest rate on tax reserve certificates will be reviewed monthly based on the average interest rates of 12-month fixed deposits of 100,000 to 499,999 yuan from three issuing banks.
The new interest rate will apply to all tax reserve certificates purchased on or after November 4, 2024. Tax reserve certificates purchased before November 4, 2024, will continue to accrue interest at the rate on the day of purchase. Below is recent interest rate information:
Tax reserve certificates purchased on or after April 3, 2023, and before June 5, 2023: Annual rate of 0.7667%
Tax reserve certificates purchased on or after June 5, 2023, and before August 7, 2023: Annual rate of 0.8083%
Tax reserve certificates purchased on or after August 7, 2023, and before September 4, 2023: Annual rate of 0.8833%
Tax reserve certificates purchased on or after September 4, 2023, and before June 3, 2024: Annual rate of 0.9250%
Tax reserve certificates purchased on or after June 3, 2024, and before October 7, 2024: Annual rate of 0.8833%
Tax warrants purchased on or after October 7, 2024, and before November 4, 2024: annual rate of 0.8000%.
Tax warrants purchased on or after November 4, 2024, until further notice: annual rate of 0.7167%.
Tax warrants will cease to earn interest after more than 36 months.
