Chubu Steel Corporation <5461> announced the completion of the latest advanced electric furnace on the 29th.
While the central manufacturing plant (Nakagawa-ku, Nagoya City) has been upgrading its key facility, the latest environmentally-friendly and high-efficiency electric furnace 'ECOARC-FIT(TM)' (hereinafter referred to as the new electric furnace) has been completed for renovation, and the fire lighting ceremony has been conducted.
The new electric furnace utilizes the waste heat generated during melting, preheats and continuously charges the raw material, iron scrap, resulting in energy savings such as a 15% reduction in electrical unit consumption compared to conventional electric furnaces, with an increase in productivity of approximately 10%. Additionally, the closed structure reduces environmental impact, such as a 10% reduction in noise levels and a 20% reduction in dust generation.
With the update to the new electric furnace that excels in environmental aspects suitable for an urban steelmaking plant operating in the city center of Nagoya, the aim is to achieve a sales structure of 0.8 million tons under the 24 medium-term management plan started this fiscal year, promote symbiosis with the region, and contribute to a decarbonized society.
