Despite the doubts and opposition from various circles in China and Europe over the EU's anti-subsidy investigation on electric automobiles, the European Commission still decided to implement the final anti-subsidy tax on new pure electric passenger vehicles originating from the mainland, imposing additional anti-subsidy taxes ranging from 7.8% to 35.3% on pure electric automobiles imported from the mainland. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers stated that the final ruling is not objective, extremely unfair to mainland car companies, and the association does not recognize or accept it.
This anti-subsidy investigation is a typical act of trade protectionism disguised in the cloak of compliance. Levying tariffs not only goes against the fundamental principles of free trade and fair competition but also hinders the cooperation between the automotive industries of China and Europe and the green low-carbon transformation.
