According to the news release on the U.S. official website, the starting price of the new MacBook Pro (14-inch model, M4 chip, 16GB unified memory, 512GB solid state drive) is $1599. On the Chinese official website, the price of this model is 12,999 yuan, officially available for sale starting on November 8.
In terms of appearance, the new MacBook Pro comes in two models, 14-inch and 16-inch, with two colors: Space Gray and Silver. All models come with Liquid Retina XDR display, with the option of nano-texture display at an additional cost of 1,100 yuan.
The most notable part of the MacBook Pro hardware is the M4 series chip, built using the second-generation 3-nanometer process technology. The M4 chip features a 10-core central processor (CPU, 4 performance cores + 6 efficiency cores) and a 10-core graphics processor (GPU).
The M4 Pro integrates up to 14 CPU cores (10 performance cores + 4 efficiency cores) and up to 20 GPU cores; while the latest M4 Max integrates up to 16 CPU cores and up to 40 GPU cores, enabling faster device-side AI model processing on the MacBook Pro.
The official website claims that compared to the MacBook Pro models equipped with the M1 chip, the models with the M4 chip can achieve speeds up to 3.4 times higher than the former, the M4 Pro model can reach up to 3 times the M1 Pro, and the M4 Max can achieve 3.5 times the M1 Max, allowing for faster processing of artificial intelligence (AI) tasks.
The press release mentioned that the MacBook Pro with the M4 chip is an ideal choice for entrepreneurs, students, creators, etc.; the M4 Pro is suitable for researchers, developers, engineers, professional creatives, etc.; and the M4 Max is designed for professional data scientists, 3D artists, composers, and other professionals.
Apple states that the M4 series chips also have industry-leading performance-to-power efficiency, with a battery life of up to 24 hours, setting a new record for the longest battery life on a Mac.
Similar to the Mac mini released yesterday, the new MacBook Pro models with M4 chip all start with 16GB of memory. At the same time, the starting memory for MacBook Air models with M2 and M3 chips has also been increased to 16GB, with a starting price remaining at 7,999 RMB.
In addition, the MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips are equipped with Thunderbolt 5 ports, providing data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s.
