KFC's parent company Yum Brands announced on Thursday that out of caution, fresh onions have been removed from some KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell brand stores. The company is also monitoring the recent outbreak of E. coli infections related to McDonald's stores in various parts of the United States.

Yum Brands emphasized that no cases related to Taco Bell or other Yum Brands were found by American food safety officials investigating the E. coli outbreak related to a quarter-pound beef burger at McDonald's.

A female spokesperson for Yum Brands said, 'We will continue to follow the guidance of suppliers and regulatory authorities to ensure the ongoing safety and quality of food.' However, she refused to specify how many restaurants removed onions and where these restaurants are located.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday that the E. coli outbreak associated with McDonald's quarter-pound beef burgers has sickened at least 49 people and resulted in 1 death. According to reports, these cases have been reported in 10 states in the United States, with the most cases in Nebraska and Colorado.

McDonald's has removed the quarter-pound beef burgers from affected McDonald's stores in the area, while other items on the menu can be safely consumed.

Trouble with 'onions'?.

Currently, federal officials in the USA are inspecting the onions and beef patties used in one-quarter pound beef burgers at mcdonald's. The Food and Drug Administration of the USA stated that preliminary information from the investigation shows that the onions in the burgers may be the source of contamination.

A mcdonald's spokesperson stated that the onions used in the one-quarter pound beef burgers in the affected areas come from a single supplier and are processed in a single factory.

Taylor Farms, the agricultural company supplying onions to mcdonald's, stated that they are cooperating with federal institutions to investigate the outbreak. The company mentioned that they have removed yellow onions produced in their Colorado factory from the market, conducted pathogen testing on the products, but have not found traces of E. coli.

US Foods, a food service distributor, has issued a notice informing its customers that Taylor Farms is recalling several peeled or diced yellow onions due to potential contamination, advising restaurants to stop using these products.

A spokesperson for US Foods mentioned that the recall by Taylor Farms affects six distribution centers of US Foods in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and New Mexico. The spokesperson clarified that US Foods is not a distributor for mcdonald's and is not within the scope of the recall.

Sysco, also a supplier for restaurants, announced on Thursday that it has informed customers and some of its sites about the onion recall. The company mentioned that they will continue to monitor the situation and cooperate with regulatory authorities.
