By industry sector, machinery, construction, real estate, securities and commodity futures trading, and banking industries declined, while only marine transportation and rubber products sectors saw an increase. The percentage of advancing stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 8%, while declining stocks were 90%.

The top contributor to the decline was Fast Retailing <9983>, which pushed down the Nikkei average by about 150 yen with 1 stock.
