The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (hereinafter “our group”) began providing grades with an increased biomass ratio for the plant-derived polycarbonate diol “BeneBiol (BeneBiol)” in October. This grade will be displayed as a panel at the “4th Sustainable Materials Exhibition” to be held at Makuhari Messe from 2024/10/29 to 31.
BeneBiol is a plant-derived polycarbonate diol developed by our group ahead of the rest of the world, and is mainly used as the main raw material for polyurethane resins. By using biomass components, superior functions such as achieving both flexibility and chemical resistance, stain resistance, and characteristic tactile feel can be imparted to polyurethane resins compared to conventional petroleum-derived products, and they are used in paints and coatings for automobiles, furniture, and outdoor products, synthetic leather, artificial leather, etc.

Existing grades of BeneBiol were mainly 20 to 50% biobased, but 80% or more have been achieved in the current HSS and NLDS grades. In addition, biomass conversion has been realized in some grades derived from petroleum (NLS grade), and it is now possible to provide bio-grades with all BeneBiol. As a result, we will contribute to sustainable manufacturing for our customers by continuing the transition to plant-derived raw materials while maintaining high-quality functions.
The Group will continue to provide high value-added products and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through the development of BeneBiol.■BeneBiol product introduction
