According to the Wisdom Financial APP, the stock of united states cellular (USM.US) surged significantly after announcing the sale of a large amount of spectrum assets to Verizon (VZ.US). As of the close on Friday, the stock price of united states cellular rose by 7.22%, closing at $62.95. Since the beginning of this year, the company's stock price has cumulatively increased by about 55%.
The company announced on Friday that it will sell some spectrum licenses to Verizon for a total price of $1 billion. In addition, the company has also reached agreements with two other mobile network operators to sell other spectrum licenses.
CEO Laurent Therivel of united states cellular said in a statement on Friday: "We are pleased that the value of the remaining licenses will be fully realized, and more importantly, these agreements with multiple mobile network operators ensure that these spectrum assets will serve consumers across the United States." He added: "We will continue to seize the opportunity to monetize the remaining spectrum assets not included in today's announcement."
These transactions are one of the targets set by the company in May of this year, aiming to monetize the spectrum not included in the planned sale to T-Mobile (TMUS.US). According to the company, the completion of these transactions also depends on the completion of the transaction with T-Mobile.
In May, T-Mobile announced that it would pay approximately $2.4 billion in cash and assume about $2 billion in debt to acquire most of the wireless operations and about 30% of the spectrum assets of united states cellular, covering multiple frequency bands. The transaction is expected to be completed in mid-2025.
