Terumo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Hikaru Samejima) has completely renewed the factory at its Aitaka (Ashita) Plant in Shizuoka Prefecture for the first time in 30 years to stay close to the voices of associates* working in the field and aim to create an environment where diverse human resources can work comfortably. The current renewal targets approximately 3,800 people working at the Aitaka Plant, and the changeover has been carried out sequentially since August.

Conventionally, the Aitaka Plant has adopted white factory clothes for reasons such as the adhesion of foreign matter being easily visible. Until now, minor changes have been made, such as unifying outerwear into unisex from a genderless point of view, but in addition to the fact that white makes it easier for innerwear to see through, dirt and blemishes are easily noticeable, and in particular, many requests have been received for the color of factory clothes, such as voices from women concerned about stains due to menstrual blood during menstruation. In response to these voices from the field, we have now completely renewed our factory clothes with the aim of creating an environment where everyone can work with peace of mind regardless of gender or generation.

The color of the new factory clothes was changed from white to dark blue, where dirt and stains are less noticeable. In order to verify that there was no impact on factory operations in terms of safety or quality control, various tests were carried out before introduction, and large-scale wear trials were carried out twice within the factory, making it possible to arrive at a factory suitable for the Aitaka Plant.

Not only has the color changed, but the factory clothes adopted this time have an antistatic function, are highly stretchy, and safety and functionality have also been improved. In addition, we use fabrics that are easy to recycle, which also contributes to reducing environmental impact. In the questionnaire conducted after the renewal, voices such as “anxiety about color has disappeared, making it easier to concentrate on work” and “comfort and functionality have improved.”
Furthermore, along with this renewal, new maternity factory clothes have also been introduced.

Currently, other factories in Japan are also beginning trials and studies for factory renewal. By creating an environment where diverse human resources can work comfortably, Terumo will support the creation of new ideas and provide innovative innovations in medical care.
