Financial Associated Press October 18th (Editor: Niu Zhanlin) Local time on Thursday, the American technology giant $Meta Platforms (META.US)$ announced that it has partnered with Hollywood company Blumhouse Productions, which produced popular horror films such as "The Purge" and "Get Out", to jointly develop its AI video model Movie Gen.

Earlier this month, Meta released a new AI model Movie Gen, which can create realistic video and audio clips based on user prompts, claiming it can rival startup companies like OpenAI and ElevenLabs in the field of synthetic videos.

Samples of works provided by Meta's Movie Gen demonstrate videos of animals swimming and surfing, as well as generating dynamic videos using people's real photos. Meta states that Movie Gen can also generate background music and sound effects synchronized with the video content, and use the tool to edit existing videos.

The social media company claims that Blumhouse has selected filmmakers like Aneesh Chaganty and Casey Affleck to test Movie Gen, and will use segments generated with the tool in their films.

Meta's Vice President of GenAI, Connor Hayes, said: "While we don't plan to integrate the Movie Gen model into any public products until next year, Meta believes that open and early conversations with the creative community on how to make it the most useful creative tool and ensure its responsible use are very important."

Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum pointed out that artists still play a central role in the filmmaking industry, but innovative technology can help them create and tell stories more effectively.

It is reported that Blumhouse is a well-known filmmaking and television production company, famous for producing low-cost, high-return horror films. Its productions include 'Paranormal Activity,' 'The Purge,' 'Insidious,' 'Get Out,' 'Happy Death Day,' 'Split,' 'The Conjuring,' and 'Sinister.'

Blum added:"We are excited to give some of them the opportunity to test this cutting-edge technology and evaluate its pros and cons in the development stage. These technologies will be powerful tools for directors to integrate the creative industry into their development, ensuring that they are best suited for the job, which is important."

Meta has sent a signal of willingness to cooperate with these creative industries. However, when facing the advent of generative AI technology, most artists feel uneasy due to issues such as copyright and unemployment.

Some copyright owner groups have sued large tech companies, including Meta, accusing these companies of using their works without authorization to train generative AI systems. Meta argues that its AI training is protected by the fair use copyright principle.

The actions of many tech companies also indicate their willingness to pay for training AI on certain content. In addition to collaborating with Movie Gen, Meta announced last month that they have reached agreements with actors including Judy Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena to voice Meta AI chatbots.

Similarly, OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, has been meeting with Hollywood executives and agents throughout the year discussing potential partnerships involving its video generation tool, Sora.
