Japanese ADRs traded higher against the Tokyo Stock Exchange comparison (equivalent to 1 dollar = 149.58 yen), with Japan Post <6178>, Mitsubishi Corp <8058>, Marubeni <8002>, Bridgestone <5108>, Mizuho Financial Group <8411>, Toyota Motor <7203>, Honda Motor <7267>, etc., rising and overall buying dominance. Chicago Nikkei 225 futures settlement price was 260 yen higher than Osaka's daytime comparison at 39,450 yen.

The US stock market rebounded. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 43,077.70, up 337.28 points, while the Nasdaq closed at 18,367.08, up 51.49 points. Concerns about the semiconductor sector lingered, leading to a decline after the opening. Following this, airlines and positive financial results boosted buying sentiment, with semiconductor Nvidia (NVDA) being bought and investor confidence improving, leading to an upward trend. Hopes for a soft landing also helped the Dow surge. A decrease in long-term interest rates also provided support, with the Nasdaq remaining resilient and the market expanding its gains towards the end.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 16th, the dollar-yen rate rose from 149.15 yen to 149.81 yen and closed at 149.67 yen. The yen selling due to risk appetite and Bank of Japan's Adachi stating the need to gradually raise interest rates at an extremely slow pace for monetary policy management led to easing expectations of a narrowing interest rate differential between Japan and the US, resulting in yen selling and dollar buying dominance. The euro-dollar rate initially rose to 1.0901 dollars, then fell to 1.0853 dollars before closing at 1.0859 dollars. Selling of the euro incorporating additional rate cuts by the European Central Bank (ECB) intensified further.
