According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs on October 14, the year-on-year decline in textile and clothing exports in September in terms of US dollars was 3.8%, and the month-on-month decline was 11.3%. Among them, textile exports decreased by 2.1%, while clothing exports decreased by 5.1%.
According to a document issued by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, the year-on-year decline in textile and clothing exports in September, as measured in US dollars and based on the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs, was 3.8%, with a month-on-month decrease of 11.3%. This is due to factors such as weak overseas market demand, a global decline in manufacturing sentiment, and the appreciation of the Chinese Yuan.
In the first three quarters of this year, China's cumulative textile and clothing exports totaled 222.41 billion US dollars, an increase of 0.5% year-on-year. Specifically, textile exports were 104.3 billion US dollars, up 2.9%, while clothing exports were 118.11 billion US dollars, down 1.6%. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, challenges remain for the export growth of China's textile and clothing industry due to factors such as the sustainability of overseas demand recovery, trade protectionism, and geopolitical tensions.
Textile and apparel exports in RMB:
From January to September 2024, total textile and clothing exports reached 1581.65 billion yuan, an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period last year. Textile exports were 741.71 billion yuan, up 4.8%, while clothing exports remained steady at 839.94 billion yuan. In September, textile and clothing exports were 176.66 billion yuan, with a year-on-year decrease of 6% and a month-on-month decline of 11.4%. Specifically, textile exports were 80.18 billion yuan, down 4.4% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month, while clothing exports were 96.48 billion yuan, down 7.3% year-on-year and 14% month-on-month.

From January to September 2024, total textile and clothing exports were 222.41 billion US dollars, with a growth of 0.5%. Textile exports were 104.3 billion US dollars, up 2.9%, while clothing exports were 118.11 billion US dollars, down 1.6%. In September, textile and clothing exports were 24.78 billion US dollars, down 3.8% year-on-year and 11.3% month-on-month. Specifically, textile exports were 11.25 billion US dollars, down 2.1% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month, while clothing exports were 13.53 billion US dollars, down 5.1% year-on-year and 14% month-on-month.
