Kuraray Co., Ltd.

Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Jin Kawahara) has obtained the ISCC PLUS certification※1, an internationally recognized certification for sustainable products, for the methacrylic resin molding material produced at our Niigata Plant (Tainai City, Niigata Prefecture), and I would like to announce it. This is the second product to be certified following MPD (3-methyl-1,5-pentanediol) at the Niigata Plant.

This certification ensures that biomass raw materials and recycled materials are properly managed in the supply chain using a mass balance approach※2, including product manufacturing.
In this certification, in addition to biomass raw materials, our company has been recognized for collecting wasted methanol and using it as a recycled material in the production of methacrylic resin molding materials.

As part of the 5-year plan leading up to our 100th anniversary in 2026, Kuraray is advancing the mid-term management plan "PASSION 2026." To achieve the long-term vision of "Kuraray Vision 2026" (an evolving specialty chemicals company that incorporates new elements into its unique technology, contributing to customers, society, and the earth while sustaining growth), we will continue to expand environmentally and socially beneficial products.

※1 ISCC PLUS Certification:
ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is an international certification for sustainability and carbon, where ISCC PLUS is a system that manages and guarantees the bio-based or recycled raw materials and products sold worldwide, including outside the EU, in the supply chain.

※2 Mass Balance Approach:
A method of assigning characteristics to some products based on the input amount of biomass materials, regenerated materials, etc., and petroleum-derived materials when manufacturing products using various types of raw materials (e.g. biomass materials, regenerated materials, etc., and petroleum-derived materials).

Clariant Group promises and declares its commitment to comply with the latest requirements of ISCC and ISCC PLUS requirements, in accordance with environmental contributions, without double-counting.
