Barakah Offshore Chairman Dato Zaid Ibrahim Steps Down

Barakah Offshore Petroleum has announced the resignation of its Chairman Dato Mohd Zaid Ibrahim an independent and non-executive director of the group with immediate effect. Dato Zaid he said has decided to take a rest from work.

The group has announced at the same time that President and Chief Executive Officer Dato Sri Nik Hamdan will be assuming the new Chairman post.

Dato Zaid was appointed to the Board of Barakah Offshore Petroleum Berhad as an Independent Non-Executive Chairman on 14 October 2019.

He obtained an LLB (University of London) and was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in London before establishing the largest legal firm in Malaysia. He is now a partner with Zaid Ibrahim Suflan T H Liew & Partners (ZISTHLP). He has over 47 years as a legal practitioner and was involved in multi-disciplinary practices and advises clients on corporate matters, privatisation and financing of major infrastructure projects such as the North-South Highway and water privatisation. He also had extensive experience in advising government agencies on law reform and drafting legislation and regulations.

In 2004, he secured victory as a Member of Parliament representing Kota Bharu. In 2008 he was appointed to be the Cabinet of former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,and served as a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department with responsibility on legal affairs and judicial reform.

Datuk Zaid is also known for his advocacy for human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Malaysia.

Datuk Zaid is a prolific writer and author, contributing articles on law, politics, and societal issues to various publications.
