At the bitcoin 2024 Amsterdam conference, someone asked Cotar how she first learned about bitcoin and what characteristics of this digital currency interested her. She first explained how her political career began because she wanted to fight for "freedom".

"I knew our monetary system had collapsed, I knew printing money wasn't the solution," she continued to explain. In the early days of her career, she had no solution.

In 2013, her brother advised her to invest in bitcoin. She admitted that she regrets not investing at the time, but her brother did. When she watched a video about bitcoin and economics, she said it was her "epiphany" moment.

"That's the solution I've been looking for," she added.

She then revealed that she had tried to promote bitcoin within the party, but to no avail. After leaving the party, she realized she could finally discuss and promote "topics that I cherish." In 2023, Cotar wore a bitcoin T-shirt in the Federal Parliament criticizing Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC).

Katar stated that the German parliament has a "misunderstanding" of how bitcoin operates. She said that her colleagues believe this digital currency is a "climate killer" and a tool used by "terrorists", but she pointed out that this is something she wants to change.

She further emphasized that in Germany, politicians have reached conclusions about bitcoin because of a lack of proper education about the potential of this asset.

Katar explained, "According to German law, if these things depreciate rapidly, they must be sold." She stated that due to the volatility of digital assets, German law classifies bitcoin as an asset that needs to be sold "quickly", which she finds "regrettable".

On the other hand, she reiterated that German political figures had enough time to come together after confiscating bitcoin in January to further understand what bitcoin can do, but they chose not to do so. She also mentioned that they had plenty of time to amend the laws but did not do so. She revealed that she had written to the finance minister and the chancellor, asking them to "prevent" the sale of $3 billion worth of bitcoin from June to July.

She acknowledged that the issue in Germany is the widespread fear of new things. She said that German politicians "first see risks" rather than delving into the potential advantages of emerging technologies. "This is why we are always lagging behind," she argued.

She said, "We need to first discover opportunities and seize them."

"If you have the right bitcoin strategy, you really have the potential to change a country," Katar said when discussing her transformative views on the world's first decentralized digital currency. She then pointed out that inflation "steals money from people's hands every month", and the continuously rising inflation rate is never acceptable.

"Bitcoin will solve this problem," she added. "For me, bitcoin is a free currency."

She also urged bitcoin users to communicate with members of Congress and politicians, asking them to listen and stating that this is a way that is expected to trigger change and may have a real impact on political views.
