Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will hold the planned exhibition 'Welcome to the Fascinating World of Book Paper' at its cultural facility 'Ichigaya no Mori Hon to Katsuji-kan' (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) from Saturday, October 19, 2024 to Sunday, February 16, 2025.
About the planned exhibition 'Welcome to the Fascinating World of Book Paper'
Printing paper, in addition to magazines and books, is used in a variety of applications such as promotional materials like flyers and posters, various types of forms, etc., with different blends of raw materials and surface coatings. Especially for books focused on text such as literature and essays, qualities like eye-friendly whiteness, easy page turning flexibility, typical paper feel, quality of not showing through on double-sided printing, functions for readers to 'comfortably read,' and long-lasting color fastness are required. Even though they may look like the same white paper, comparing while focusing on each individual characteristic reveals various differences.
In this exhibition, a total of 61 types of papers manufactured mainly for book content will be gathered together, exhibited, and introduced along with their relevant information. By comparing and actually touching them, you can feel the fascinating world of book paper.

About 'Ichigaya No Mori Hon to Katsujikan'
'Ichigaya No Mori Hon to Katsujikan' partially reproduces the workplace of letterpress printing, exhibiting and introducing the process from designing characters to casting type, printing, and bookbinding as a 'real factory.' It showcases the actual operation of printing machines from the early Showa period, as well as the activities of letterpress craftsmen in a 'dynamic exhibition' format where you can see them working. The facility also has a workshop where visitors can experience the craft of letterpress printing, and hosts interactive workshops.
