The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the USA stated on Wednesday that it is requiring Marriott International (MAR.US) and its subsidiary Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to implement an information security plan to settle multiple data breach incidents from 2014 to 2020.
The FTC mentioned that Marriott's three major data breach incidents between 2014 and 2020 affected over 0.344 billion customers. In another settlement agreement, Marriott agreed to pay a $52 million fine to resolve the related data security allegations.
