In the third quarter of 2024, the global PC market achieved growth for four consecutive quarters, with a total shipment volume of desktops, laptops, and workstations increasing by 1.3% to reach 66.4 million units.
Intelligent Finance APP learned that according to data released by Canalys, the global PC market achieved growth for four consecutive quarters in the third quarter of 2024, with the total shipment volume of desktops, laptops, and workstations increasing by 1.3% to reach 66.4 million units. The shipment volume of laptops (including mobile workstations) reached 53.5 million units, an increase of 2.8%, while the shipment volume of desktops (including desktop workstations) decreased by 4.6% to 12.9 million units. It is expected to continue strong growth over the next 12 months, mainly due to the significant demand for Windows PCs before the termination of Windows 10 services in October 2025.
Canalys Chief Analyst Ishan Dutt stated: "Although the growth in the third quarter was moderate, the recovery of the PC market has fully started, and some positive signals indicate that the performance in the coming quarters will be stronger. Enterprise demand is particularly evident, with only one year left for enterprises to upgrade to Windows 11 and avoid delaying payment of IT support fees. It is expected that commercial demand will remain at a relatively high level this year. Canalys channel partner surveys show that 54% of channel partners expect growth in the PC market in the second half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The latest generation of AI PC processors introduced by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm further strengthens the value proposition of upgrading old PCs. Although consumer demand is not strong, it is expected that promotional activities during the 2024 holiday season will help support growth at the end of the year.
In the third quarter of 2024, Lenovo (00992) ranked first with a global shipment volume of 16.5 million units, a 3% year-on-year growth, thanks to the continuous strong shipment volume of Lenovo after the third quarter of 2023. HP Inc. (HPQ.US) followed closely with a global shipment volume of 13.5 million units, on par with the same period last year. Dell (DELL.US) maintained the third position, with a year-on-year shipment volume decrease of 4% to 9.8 million units. ASUS ranked fourth, becoming the fastest-growing top manufacturer with a 16% year-on-year increase. Apple (AAPL.US) ranked fifth with a shipment volume of 5.1 million units.
