In the New York foreign exchange market on the 8th, the dollar-yen pair rose from 147.81 to 148.38 and closed at 148.31. The dollar buying prevailed as the U.S. trade deficit for August shrank more than expected, coupled with the anticipation of upcoming U.S. bond auctions leading to a rise in long-term interest rates. Lackluster demand in the 3-year bond auction further strengthened the dollar. The Euro against the dollar fell from 1.0990 to 1.0961 and closed at 1.0977.

NY crude oil futures for November fell sharply (NYMEX crude oil November futures closing price: 73.57, down 3.57).
