Concerns grew as a new hurricane intensified, leading to economic turmoil, resulting in a further decline towards the end.
Following the drop in US stocks, the Tokyo market started trading with a predominance of selling. As the Nikkei average fell below 39,000 yen, the exchange rate moved towards 147 yen to the dollar, causing the yen to strengthen and the dollar to weaken, leading to a slightly wider decline. Additionally, after the National Day holiday, the Shanghai Composite Index reopened with a more than 10% increase from the previous trading day, but quickly narrowed its gains. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong also briefly expanded its decline to about 10% from the previous day, contributing to the volatile movements in Asian stocks becoming a negative factor for the Nikkei average.
