The Environmental Protection Department announced that the six-month adaptation period for the new regulations on disposable plastics will end in two weeks (October 21), reminding all relevant businesses to make preparations for the end of the adaptation period.
A spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection stated that in the past five months of the adaptation period, the new regulations have successfully sparked a trend of "waste reduction" across all sectors. The dining industry has reflected that many takeaway customers have gradually become accustomed to bringing their own reusable tableware. Chain restaurants have indicated that about 80% of customers have chosen not to use disposable tableware, with approximately 30% of restaurants no longer providing any disposable tableware.
In the retail and service industries, property management companies have mentioned that the majority of citizens have already begun using umbrella drying machines instead of plastic umbrella bags; during festivals, citizens' usage of disposable plastic products such as plastic balloon sticks, glow sticks, party hats has significantly reduced, and businesses are actively selling other products to replace them.
The hotel industry has reported a significant reduction in the use of disposable plastic products since the implementation of the new regulations, and many guests have expressed their support for the new measure of reducing plastic waste.
