Fisco Japan ·  Oct 7 15:23

At the closing time on the 7th, the number of Nikkei average constituent stocks that rose was 193 stocks, 29 stocks fell, and 3 stocks remained unchanged.

At the end of last weekend, the Dow Jones average in the US market closed at 42,352.75, up 341.16 points, and the Nasdaq closed at 18,137.85, up 219.38 points. Encouraged by the end of the East Coast port union strike and strong September employment statistics, buying activity led to an increase after the opening. The market remained strong throughout the day due to a significant improvement in economic outlook. The rise in Nvidia and other semiconductor stocks driven by increasing demand for AI-related products lifted the Nasdaq. Later in the session, the market expanded its gains, with the Dow reaching a new all-time high. With the US stock market rising, buying dominated the Tokyo stock market today. The Nikkei average also started rising following the trend of Chicago futures. While geopolitical risks such as the situation in the Middle East are still being monitored, expectations of a significant rate cut at the next Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting following the US employment data have diminished. The exchange rate reached around 149 yen per dollar, accelerating the depreciation of the yen and leading to a strong day for export-related stocks. After an initial round of buying, the Nikkei average faced resistance on the upside, but closed above the 39,000 yen mark for the first time since September 27th.

At the closing of the Nikkei average, it rose by 697.12 yen from the previous trading day, reaching 39,332.74 yen. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 1.912 million shares. The turnover was 4.4765 trillion yen. Among the industry sectors, banking, insurance, securities and commodity futures trading, other products, and service industries rose, while only the five sectors of pulp and paper, air transportation, iron & steel, marine transportation, and real estate declined. Rising stocks accounted for 74% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market, while declining stocks accounted for 21%.

The top contributors to the rise were Fast Retailing, ranked 1st, and Advantest, ranked 2nd, pushing the Nikkei average up by about 167 yen with these two stocks. Furthermore, the top gaining stock in the Nikkei average constituents was Resona Holdings, up 8.68%, followed by Konami Group, up 8.15%.

On the other hand, the top contributors to the decline were Disco, ranked 1st, and Nitori Holdings, ranked 2nd, pushing the Nikkei average down by about 24 yen with these two stocks. Additionally, the top declining stock in the Nikkei average constituents was Disco, down by 6.27%, followed by Nitori Holdings, down by 2.35%.
