In the New York foreign exchange market on the 4th, the dollar-yen rate rose from 146.50 yen to 149.00 yen, closing at 148.67 yen. The strong US September employment statistics and reduced speculation of a significant rate cut at the November Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting led to accelerated dollar buying amid rising long-term interest rates. The euro-dollar rate fell from 1.1032 dollars to 1.0951 dollars, closing at 1.0975 dollars.

On the 4th, NY crude oil futures for November continued to rise (NYMEX crude oil November futures closing price: 74.38, up 0.67).
