Shimadzu Corporation will exhibit the "WONDER POWDER" presented at the world's largest design festival "Milan Design Week 2024" at AXIS Gallery (Minato-ku, Tokyo) from October 11 to 15. This work received a Special Mention in the Interaction category of the Fuorisalone Award, which evaluates projects that create immersive experiences and stimulate and involve people through creativity, out of over 1,000 works.
This exhibition is experiential science art inspired by Shimadzu Corporation's main technology, chromatography. It is part of the research results of the "WONDER POWDER" research project that our company and the design studio we+ have been working on since April 2022. The exhibition at Milan Design Week will be recreated, and there will be talk sessions during the exhibition period by employees involved in the project. Visitors can freely rotate the case of the exhibition piece. Enjoy the beautiful gradients created by various powdered materials sealed in acrylic along with water in the case.
"WONDER POWDER" is part of the activities aimed at increasing interest in science and technology along with Shimadzu Corporation's recognition. By spreading our analytical measurement technology through art and design and receiving evaluation from the world's design leaders, we aim to enhance the global recognition of the Shimadzu brand and improve design technology. This will lead to the recruitment of outstanding engineers and designers domestically and internationally, strengthening our development and design capabilities to promote business growth.

About Milan Design Week
A collective term for the world's largest international furniture exhibition, Salone del Mobile.Milano, held in Milan, and the concurrent Fuorisalone. Numerous companies and designers from around the world participate, showcasing a wide range of latest designs.
About we+
A contemporary design studio that shapes new perspectives and values based on research and experimentation. Founded by Tohaya Hayashi and Hokuto Ando in 2013. In today's society where convenience and rationality are sought after, they explore the potential of alternative design that values diverse perspectives often overlooked, while building intimate coexistence with the natural and social environment. Members with diverse backgrounds and skills such as designers, engineers, researchers, and writers gather to present self-initiated projects developed from daily research both domestically and internationally. Leveraging the insights gained, they undertake various projects for companies and organizations, such as R&D, installations, branding, product development, spatial design, and graphic design.
