ADR (American Depositary Receipt) Japanese stocks, compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (1 dollar = 146.86 yen), Japan Post <6178>, Toyota Industries <6201>, Mizuho Financial Group <8411>, Marubeni <8002>, Advantest <6857>, etc. rose, while Japan Post Bank <7182>, Nippon Densan <6594>, Daikin Industries <6367>, Murata Manufacturing <6981>, Sony <6758>, etc. fell, and the overall situation was mixed. NVIDIA's rise in the semiconductor sector supported the NASDAQ, but profit-taking selling ahead of the employment report release on the 4th heightened caution, resulting in a sluggish end.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 3rd, the dollar weakened to 146.48 yen, then rose to 147.17 yen before closing at 146.93 yen. The dollar retreated temporarily as U.S. weekly initial jobless claims exceeded expectations. Subsequently, the U.S. September ISM non-manufacturing index rose more than expected to a 1.5-year high, easing speculation of a rapid interest rate cut, leading to increased dollar buying alongside rising long-term interest rates. In addition, comments by Prime Minister Shiba and diminished expectations of additional interest rate hikes by the Bank of Japan by year-end further boosted dollar buying and intensified selling of the yen. The euro-dollar pair fell from 1.1047 dollars to 1.1008 dollars, closing at 1.1029 dollars. Euro selling continued in anticipation of an additional rate cut at the ECB's October meeting.

NY crude oil futures for November rose significantly (NYMEX crude oil November contract closing price: 73.71, up 3.61).
