SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son has outlined an extremely aggressive timetable for the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), envisioning the birth of an AI butler in the near future.

On Thursday, Masayoshi Son stated at an annual forum for enterprise clients that artificial intelligence will soon be able to monitor the health status of family members, contact doctors when necessary, handle shopping and appointments, assess the best investment options, and tutor young children. He has brought forward the timeline for achieving general artificial intelligence to the next two to three years, and the widespread adoption of general artificial intelligence is also a long-term goal of companies like OpenAI, Meta, and Google.

Masayoshi Son leads Japan's largest technology investment company, which has invested in hundreds of startups and companies developing new technologies and services using artificial intelligence. Over the past few years, he has consistently been bullish on the prospects of artificial intelligence, and warned skeptics that failing to embrace the upcoming AI revolution could lead to falling behind.

"We can design AI personal assistants who understand emotions and can bring you happiness," said Masayoshi Son. "Super AI can make you happy."

At 67 years old, Masayoshi Son's comments indicate that he is willing to continue to invest heavily in the field of artificial intelligence. It is reported that SoftBank, with a large amount of cash on hand, invested $0.5 billion in OpenAI's latest $6.6 billion financing round, valuing this leading artificial intelligence company at $157 billion. Masayoshi Son did not mention this investment in his speech, but he praised OpenAI's latest ChatGPT model, saying it has the ability to mimic human reasoning.

Masayoshi Son has stated that he posed some tricky questions to this latest ChatGPT model, attempting to stump AI, but received good answers within 45 seconds. His questions included how to increase his savings account to 0.1 billion yen and how to extend the range of an electric car battery.

"The human brain is composed of approximately 100 trillion synaptic connections, this number will not change, while generative AI is creating new synapses at an astonishing rate," said Masayoshi Son.

Masayoshi Son stated that an AI with reasoning capabilities, when performing complex tasks such as determining service prices or ensuring the bathtub is filled with water at the right time and reaches the temperature expected by the user, needs to be able to converse and negotiate with others. All of this will drive the need for more connectivity and require the use of more chips with SoftBank's Arm technology.
