Canada has announced a list of dozens of Chinese steel and aluminum products, which will be subject to a 25% tariff starting on October 22, while goods already in transit on October 22 will be exempted.
Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland stated that Canada's actions are in line with major international partners, aiming to protect Canadian steel and aluminum industry workers and businesses from the impact of China's overcapacity policies. Canada plans to review these measures within the next year, and may extend them or use other measures as alternatives.
In August, Canada announced a 100% tariff on electric vehicles manufactured in China, with the new tariff taking effect on Tuesday, the 1st.
