Rakuten Health Care celebrates its 2nd anniversary since the service started by sharing users' health management trends.

Rakuten Group, operated by Rakuten Group, celebrates the 2nd anniversary of the launch of the smartphone app 'Rakuten Healthcare,' which allows users to manage their health while earning points. Since its launch in October 2022, 'Rakuten Healthcare' has surpassed 1.8 million downloads in total and continues to steadily increase its number of users. To commemorate this occasion, the app has released the health management trends of users, focusing on features such as 'physical activity records' and 'meal management.' A survey was conducted targeting users who utilized these distinctive functions of the app to investigate the activity levels and weight changes in the record-breaking heat of July this year.

Overview of survey results
About 70% of users achieved over 5,000 steps per day during the month of July this year.
"Rakuten Health Care" targeted users who recorded physical activity to investigate the distribution of daily steps in July 2024. It was found that 69% were walking an average of over 5,000 steps per day. Additionally, the percentage of users walking over 6,000 steps has increased to 50%. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the average temperature in July in the country has recorded the highest value since 1898. Despite this, it has become apparent that many users in "Rakuten Health Care" have been achieving over 5,000 steps a day as a guideline for daily exercise, maintaining a certain level of activity.
- Daily Step Distribution
15.5% achieve over 5,000 steps consistently every day.
Furthermore, during the same period, it was found that 15.5% of users who recorded physical activity in "Rakuten Health Care" were achieving over 5,000 steps consistently every day. In "Rakuten Health Care," achieving 5,000 steps a day allows participation in a lottery to win "Rakuten Points" the next day. It has been revealed that approximately 1 in 6.5 users has been able to habitualize daily exercise of over 5,000 steps, receiving such incentives. "Rakuten Health Care" also works on creating mechanisms to continue exercise while having fun, such as being able to increase the number of lottery entries by achieving 5,000 steps for 7 consecutive days.
- Participants achieving 5,000 steps every day for a month
■During the period, about 10% of users who recorded their meals at least once every 3 days experienced a weight loss of over 3 kilograms.
From February 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, a study was conducted among users who used the 'Meal Management' feature to record their meals at least once every 3 days. A comparison of the latest weight during recording and the start of recording revealed that 9.6% of users had a weight loss of over 3 kilograms. The 'Meal Management' feature not only allows users to easily record their meals and snacks by taking photos but also enables display of calorie and nutrient intake goals. This feature can be useful for dieting when used in conjunction with daily body records such as weight. Additionally, users are eligible to participate in a challenge event that awards 'Rakuten Points' the day after registering breakfast, lunch, and dinner consecutively for 3 days.

■The top nutrient deficiency is Vitamin B2 for men and iron for women.
From February 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, a 6-month analysis period was conducted among users who utilized the 'Meal Management' feature to record more than 3 meals a day including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. The analysis of nutrient intake based on the recorded meals revealed that the top nutrient deficiency is Vitamin B2 for men and iron for women. Iron is also listed as the 3rd for men, indicating it is a commonly deficient nutrient for both genders. The 'Meal Management' feature enables users to review their daily eating habits easily by checking consumed calories and nutrients, comparing them with intake goals, contributing to effective health management.

"Rakuten Healthcare" will hold a campaign to commemorate its 2nd anniversary starting today. During the target period, users who enter from the campaign page and record breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 3 days or more using the "Meal Management" function (note 4) will be eligible to receive a split of 0.2 million Rakuten Points (note 5).
"Rakuten Healthcare" is a free (note 6) health management app aimed at extending users' healthy life expectancy, improving quality of life (QOL), and rationalizing medical expenses. It records activity data such as steps, distance traveled, and calories burned, as well as physical measurement values such as weight, body fat percentage, and BMI, allowing users to easily understand and manage their overall health through functions such as "Physical Activity Records" and "Meal Management," where users can record calorie and nutrient intake from meals.
Furthermore, from October 2024 onwards, the introduction of a new "Health Report" function is planned. This feature will collaborate with the health care service provider "Minna no Katei no Igaku" operated by Frontier Health Association Co., Ltd., displaying advice based on daily step counts, meal records, and daily trivia about health on the app. Through this feature, the aim is to further motivate users in their health management and contribute to health promotion.
"Rakuten Healthcare" will continue to utilize technology and the wide range of services within the Rakuten Group to enhance awareness about user’s health.
