South Korea's export momentum remained strong in September.

According to the Financial and Economic APP, driven by the continued strong demand for semiconductors, South Korea, known as the "ksm" of the global economy, maintained strong export momentum in September. Data released by South Korea Customs on Tuesday showed that adjusted for working day differences, exports in September increased by 12.9% year-on-year, slightly lower than the previous month's growth. Overall export growth slowed to 7.5%, imports increased by 2.2%, and the trade surplus expanded to $6.7 billion.

South Korea is one of the largest technology product exporting countries globally, with products including storage chips used in various products ranging from laptops to smart phones. The latest data indicates that external demand remains strong.

South Korea's exports continued to grow in double digits.

Analyst Cho Chuel from the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade stated: "Semiconductors continue to be the main driver of exports, and this year's strong data so far has been magnified compared to last year's severe decline. Given that the chip recovery began at the end of last year, the momentum of recovery may start to weaken, although negative growth is unlikely in the short term."

This year's export growth has prompted the Bank of Korea and the government to raise annual growth expectations. Nevertheless, with the inflation rate returning to 2%, the Bank of Korea is expected to begin easing in the near future.

There is more evidence showing that global demand for technology continues to drive South Korea's exports. Data released by the South Korean government shows that semiconductor exports in September increased by 37.1% year-on-year, marking the 11th consecutive month of growth, only slightly weaker than the 38.8% increase in August. Computer exports grew by 132%, while exports of wireless communications equipment increased by 19%.

South Korea's chip exports remain strong, despite the slowdown in growth.

The continued demand for artificial intelligence storage chips has been a key driver of South Korea's economic growth momentum this year. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are competing for a larger share of Nvidia's substantial orders.

Tuesday's data shows that South Korea continues to benefit from global economic recovery. The data reveals a 4.9% year-on-year increase in auto exports from South Korea, with ship sales skyrocketing by 76.2% compared to the same period last year.

According to the South Korean Ministry of Trade, driven by demand for chips and mobile devices, South Korea's exports to China in September increased by 6.3% year-on-year. Meanwhile, exports to the USA and the EU grew by 3.4% and 5.1% respectively.

However, many ports in North America are on the brink of a strike, casting a shadow over business prospects. According to Bloomberg's data, out of 10 key global trade indicators, 2 are at "below normal" levels, while 8 are at normal levels.
