The International Longshoremen's Association union recently stated that ports on the East Coast of the usa and the Gulf of Mexico will begin striking on Tuesday, October 1, causing anticipated transportation delays and disruptions to the supply chain.
The union stated that the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) has refused to resolve wage issues that have been ongoing for half a century, but the strike will not affect military cargo transportation or cruise traffic.
If union members go on strike at ports from Maine to Texas, it means that the affected ports will handle approximately half of the marine transportation in the usa. A White House spokesperson stated that senior officials have been in contact with USMX representatives over the past weekend, urging USMX to reach a fair and quick agreement.
