This project is part of the IBDream project, an activity that addresses the concerns of IBD patients and considers solutions with various companies and organizations. As the second initiative of the collaboration between Takeda Pharmaceutical and Lawson, we collected and selected easy and time-saving recipes for IBD patients using Lawson's products under the theme of 'fulfilling the 'I want to eat now!' of IBD patients.' From the numerous recipes collected during the application period from May 16, 2024, to June 12, 2024, one Grand Prix recipe and four winning recipes were selected through evaluation by 5 judges including doctors, dietitians, patient association representatives, patients, and a general vote on Lawson's official X platform. The 5 recipes have been published on Takeda Pharmaceutical and Lawson's official websites today, after being supervised by registered dietitians, etc.
IBD is a disease that causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal mucosa centered on the intestines, and it is known to occur mainly in teenagers to those in their 20s. Many patients suffer from frequent diarrhea, bloody stools, abdominal pain, fever, and chronic fatigue while going about their daily lives. According to a survey conducted by Takeda Pharmaceuticals with IBD patients, they face concerns with their diet, such as limited food choices due to the necessity of lipid restriction, and difficulties in controlling lipids which can lead to physical discomfort after dining out.
While nutritional considerations are necessary, incorporating recipes that require complex cooking processes or time-consuming recipes into the daily life of patients who find it difficult to spend time preparing meals is expected to be a burden. Therefore, in this project, we aimed to realize the dream of 'Easy and Time-saving Convenience Store Arranged Recipes for IBD patients' using convenience store ingredients that are easily accessible and can be prepared quickly.
Mr. Miyazawa Yasushi, who served as a recipe supervisor among the judges of this project and is also the head of the Nutrition Management Department at Tokyo Medical University Hospital, stated, "In IBDream Meal - Convenience Store Edition, not only can you consume low-fat and protein-rich meals, but many recipes full of ideas have been gathered. I believe that recipes that can be easily prepared like this one will be very helpful for patients, especially when meals are challenging. I hope you can select food according to your condition, enjoy your meal, and find it helpful." Other judge's comments can be found on the special page of 'IBDream Meal - Convenience Store Edition'.
This project is part of the activities of the 'IBDream Project', which aims to address the concerns of IBD patients and explore solutions with various companies and organizations. Takeda Pharmaceuticals has developed and released dream recipes called IBDream Meals, as well as posters representing the feelings of patients and created 'IBDream Sweets Catalog' to support patients in choosing sweets, all to solve the concerns faced by IBD patients through the IBDream Project.
Continuing forward, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Lawson will work together with various stakeholders that make up society to advance understanding of IBD in society. We will continue to strive to create an optimal society for IBD patients.

Last year, Takeda Pharmaceutical and Lawson, as the first step, aimed to raise awareness of the disease characteristics of IBD and the concerns of patients with IBD to as many people as possible. We conducted disease awareness activities such as promoting "World IBD Day" on the POS register display screens of all Lawson stores nationwide and posting posters created by Takeda Pharmaceutical that empathize with the feelings of patients in Lawson stores deploying art toilets. This year, under the theme of "Fulfilling what IBD patients want to eat now", we sought easy and quick recipe modifications using Lawson products for IBD patients. Takeda Pharmaceutical and Lawson will continue to work with various stakeholders that make up society to advance society's understanding of the disease IBD and aim to create an optimal society for IBD patients.
This project is an initiative to address the concerns of patients with IBD and explore solutions with various companies and organizations. Takeda Pharmaceutical has been developing recipes for dreams through the IBDream project, such as IBDream meals, which are recipes to resolve the concerns of IBD patients, creating posters to express the feelings of patients, and publicly releasing them, as well as producing the 'IBDream Snack Book' to support patients in choosing snacks.
