Mitsubishi Corporation, Nippon Steel Corporation, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, and Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy Co., Ltd. have been awarded the survey on the feasibility of constructing an overseas CCS value chain for CO2 emissions from multiple industries in the Ise Bay/Central region, as part of the public solicitation for the Reiwa 6th Year "Advanced CCS Project Design Work."
Last year, Mitsubishi Corporation, Nippon Steel Corporation, and ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. conducted cost estimates and initial designs for CO2 separation, recovery, liquefaction, offshore shipping, and storage. This year, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy Corporation have also joined this study, with plans to enhance the precision of various designs based on the results obtained in the previous study, as well as to verify CO2 offshore shipping logistics and refine the business plan.
In the future, the five companies will continue to aim for final investment decisions by FY 2026 and business commencement by FY 2030, focusing on specific CO2 separation and recovery site selection, overseas CO2 storage site selection, as well as the establishment of the value chain required for commercialization and verification of related technologies, leveraging their respective expertise.
