Appaloosa Management创始人泰珀看衰核能AI动力论 力挺天然气仍是AI能源主力

Appaloosa Management founder Tepper is pessimistic about nuclear energy AI power theory, and supports that natural gas is still the block orders of AI energy.

Although there are predictions that nuclear energy will power artificial intelligence (AI), this idea is not realistic, as he expects natural gas to continue as the primary energy source for AI.

Finance and Economics App learned that David Tepper, the founder of Appaloosa Management, believes that despite predictions that nuclear energy will power artificial intelligence (AI), this idea is not realistic, as he expects natural gas to remain the main energy source for AI. Tepper stated in an interview that after communicating with governors across the United States, he believes that nuclear power plants will not be shut down, but the forecast of using nuclear energy to power AI is too "crazy".

Tepper's comments were made after Constellation Energy (CEG.US) and Microsoft (MSFT.US) signed a 20-year power purchase agreement, which will support the restart of one unit at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. Under the agreement, Microsoft will purchase energy from the refurbished 835-megawatt reactor to support its PJM datacenter's carbon-free energy usage goals.

Tepper believes that natural gas is essential to meet the power needs of AI. Constellation plans to invest approximately $1.6 billion to restart the plant, with production expected to start in 2028 and operations extending to at least 2054. Meanwhile, Vistra's (VST.US) stock price has risen due to its strong nuclear power business, increasing by 206% this year, while Constellation has seen an overall increase of 120%. It is worth mentioning that Vistra's stock price increase has surpassed Nvidia (NVDA.US), making it one of the best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 Index this year.

Tepper further pointed out that existing nuclear power plants cannot pass the scrutiny of Public Utility Commissions, as doing so would cause too much harm to consumers.

He used a metaphor to illustrate this, stating that if a person is 7 feet 2 inches tall (about 2.18 meters), they may one day enter the NBA. But since he himself is not that tall, he believes that ideas suggesting achieving goals through certain actions are unrealistic. He used this metaphor to explain that while some ideas may sound good, they are actually impractical, much like he cannot enter the NBA because he is not tall enough.
