According to Reuters on September 29, Shawn Fain, the chairman of the United Auto Workers (UAW), stated in a letter to the UAW's American branch that the UAW is requesting Stellantis' workers to authorize a strike, accusing this European auto manufacturer of violating contract commitments. The union's dissatisfaction with Stellantis mainly revolves around its product and investment commitments made during last fall's contract negotiations. Fain added in the letter, "We have reviewed Stellantis' serious violations of the contract and illegal behavior patterns. There is clear evidence that CEO Carlos Tavares is leading Stellantis towards collapse, which will cause huge harm to our members." Stellantis reiterated that the company has fulfilled the commitments in the agreement reached with the UAW in 2023.
