In A Competitive Console Landscape, Nintendo Says It Will Not 'Get Involved In The Game War'

As the console landscape continues to be dominated by intense competition between PlayStation and Xbox, Nintendo ADR's (OTC:NTDOY) legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has expressed the desire for the company to remain detached from this ongoing "game war."

During a recent interview with Famitsu (via IGN), held to mark the upcoming opening of the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto on Oct. 2, Miyamoto articulated a vision that prioritizes Nintendo's unique identity over the technical arms race prevalent in the industry.

A Vision For The Nintendo Museum

Miyamoto shared that the museum serves as a vital link between the company and its audience.

"Not only our employees but also people who know about Nintendo, including three generations of parents and children, could come out to see the museum and understand what Nintendo is all about," he said.

In his remarks, Miyamoto voiced his hope that visitors and industry peers alike would "understand Nintendo and not get involved in what is sometimes called the 'game war,' such as high specs and how to improve the performance of game consoles."

"Nintendo will continue to make products that are uniquely Nintendo using various technologies available in the world today," he added.

Miyamoto's remarks are direct but not unexpected, considering Nintendo's relative absence from the console war narrative compared Sony Group Corp. (NYSE:SONY) and Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:SONY) which have focused on high specs and performance, such as Sony's recent announcement of the PS5 Pro.

Nintendo's approach has proven successful, with the Switch still selling well even as its successor is anticipated.
