Google CEO Pichai: will invest $3.3 billion in South Carolina to build two new datacenters, expanding our cloud and datacenter infrastructure. This move comes as the technology giant and its competitors continue to increase infrastructure investments to support the thriving artificial intelligence (AI) applications sector.
Alphabet (Google's parent company) CEO Sundar Pichai shared the company's plans, including establishing two new datacenter parks in Chester County and expanding the existing datacenter park in Berkeley County.
Detailed information provided by the South Carolina Governor's Office on Thursday shows that the new facilities in the Pine Hill Business Park in Ridgeville and the Winding Woods Business Park in St. George represent a $2 billion investment, expected to create 200 new operational jobs.
In addition to the investment in Chester County, Alphabet will also invest $1.3 billion to expand its Berkeley County datacenter park. These investments are part of Alphabet's broader infrastructure commitments, reflected in its $13 billion in capital expenditures in the June quarter reported in July.
The company also informed investors that capital expenditures for the remaining quarters of 2024 will reach or exceed $12 billion.
