American Eagle Outfitters (AEO.US) sued amazon (AMZN.US) for trademark infringement, alleging that the latter used the Aerie clothing brand in its search results on the platform, leading consumers to buy inferior counterfeit goods.

American Eagle accuses amazon of openly and unauthorizedly using the Aerie and Offline by Aerie trademarks on its platform, deceiving consumers to believe that these products are available on Amazon, in order to increase traffic on its platform and sell competing products.

The lawsuit also mentioned that many so-called counterfeit Aerie products are sold by third-party sellers on the amazon platform, and American Eagle is seeking an injunction against amazon for trademark infringement as well as economic compensation.
