Japanese stocks of ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) saw Japan Post <6178>, Mizuho FG <8411>, Toyota Industries <6201>, Advantest <6857>, Tokyo Electron <8035>, SoftBank Group <9984>, Disco <6146>, etc. rise compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (converted at 1 dollar = 144.68 yen), with overall buying dominance. Chicago Nikkei 225 futures closing price for Osaka was 320 yen higher at 37,980 yen.

The U.S. stock market was mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 293.47 points at 41,914.75, while the Nasdaq closed 7.69 points higher at 18,082.21. Positive sentiment following the OECD's upward revision of the global economic growth outlook led to buying activity, resulting in an initial rise. However, profit-taking selling increased near record highs for the Dow later on, along with a significant drop in August new home sales from July. Despite pressure from rising long-term interest rates, the Nasdaq was slightly higher supported by strength in the semiconductor sector. The Dow extended losses towards the end of the session, closing with a mixed performance.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 25th, the dollar weakened to 143.87 yen, then rose to 144.84 yen before closing at 144.79 yen. Strong demand for the dollar was fueled by better-than-expected U.S. August new home sales figures and expectations of rising long-term interest rates due to U.S. Treasury bond auctions. The downward revision of Japan's economic outlook to negative growth in the OECD's interim economic outlook may have also been a factor for selling the yen. The Euro to Dollar exchange rate rose to 1.1214 dollars, then fell to 1.1122 dollars before closing at 1.1127 dollars.

NY crude oil futures for November fell (NYMEX crude oil November contract closing price: 69.69, down 1.87).
