Taiwan Semiconductor, Ansys, and Microsoft announced a collaboration to increase the simulation and analysis speed of silicon photonics components by more than 10 times.

According to Sina Finance APP, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US), Ansys (ANSS.US), and Microsoft (MSFT.US) announced a collaboration to increase the simulation and analysis speed of silicon photonics components by more than 10 times, bringing revolutionary advancements in silicon photonics integrated circuit (PIC) technology for data communication, biomedical tools, automotive lidar systems, and artificial intelligence.

In this collaboration, the three companies are utilizing Nvidia's accelerated computing technology on Microsoft's Azure NC A100v4 series virtual machines and Azure AI infrastructure to significantly enhance the photonics simulation speed of Ansys' Lumerical FDTD 3D electromagnetic simulation software. This advancement not only demonstrates the powerful capabilities of cloud infrastructure but also provides an ideal platform for the development of silicon-based PIC technology, which is crucial in large-scale data centers and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Silicon-based PIC is an advanced optical communication technology that enables longer and faster data transmission. Stefan Rusu, Silicon Photonics System Design Lead at Taiwan Semiconductor, pointed out that the scale and complexity of silicon photonics solutions make simulating all possible parameter combinations challenging. However, through collaboration with Ansys and Microsoft, they are effectively leveraging the latest cloud infrastructure and technology to provide powerful and predictive solutions, generating results in a very short time.

John Lee, Vice President and General Manager of Ansys' Semiconductor, Electronics, and Optics business unit, stated that this collaboration accelerates the advancement of high-speed optical data transmission technology, one of the most crucial challenges in today's chip design field.

Through Azure's scalability, Ansys' software provides a robust platform for the development of silicon photonics integrated circuit technology, signaling new opportunities for silicon photonics integrated circuit technology in data communication, biomedical tools, automotive lidar systems, and artificial intelligence.
