Leung Fong-yuen, Chairman of the Hong Kong Travel Industry Association, said that there will be more mainland tour groups coming to Hong Kong during the National Day golden week compared to last year, with an increase in the number of tourists, but it has not yet met the industry's expectations, and the situation is not very ideal compared to the pre-epidemic period.
She said that before the epidemic, there were over 300 to 500 mainland tour groups per day during the golden week, with a total of 2,000 groups throughout the golden week. This year, it is expected to not exceed 1,000 groups, believed to be due to the convenience of transportation between the two places, more independent travel, and one-day tours.
In addition, Michael Wu Ying-wai, Executive Director of the Hotel Owners Association of Hong Kong, stated that hotel reports and sales during the summer vacation period decreased by 10% to 20% annually, therefore are more cautious about the situation during the National Day golden week.
